UWM Baseball Game Against Indiana State Now CancelledMay 15, 2007 MILWAUKEE - The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee baseball team has cancelled its game against Indiana State. The contest, which was at first postponed from Tuesday to Wednesday, will now be cancelled and not be made up. UWM head coach Scott Doffek has said that Tuesday's heavy rainfall made for poor field conditions at Henry Aaron Field. Player availability due to this week being final exam week at Milwaukee was also cited as a concern. The game against the Sycamores, which was the final scheduled home contest of the season, was set for Senior Day. Six players were to be honored as part of a pregame ceremony. They included the following:
Zimmerman has been a pitcher for the Panthers for the past two seasons after transferring to UW-Milwaukee from Kishwaukee Community College. He has appeared in more games in the past two years than any other UWM pitcher. For his UWM career, he is 2-2 in 29 games, with 19 strikeouts in 29.0 innings and was also drafted out of high school by the Texas Rangers.
Silver has played three different infield positions in his two years at UW-Milwaukee after transferring from Duke. He has appeared in 94 games in his UWM career and has set career-highs in numerous categories this season, including runs, hits, doubles, and has driven in 26 runs from the leadoff spot in the lineup. He was named Horizon League Player of the Week this past Monday. He is batting .304 with 58 hits and 33 runs scored this year.
Rauwerdink has pitched for three seasons at UW-Milwaukee after spending one season at Lakeland College. He has appeared in 44 games in his UWM career, making 30 starts. He has struck out 95 batters in 167.1 innings, recording seven victories. He was named Horizon League Pitcher of the Week in April.
Brockel is also in his third season in a Panther uniform after transferring to UWM from Purdue. He has appeared in 130 games, recording 134 hits, 31 doubles, seven triples, 16 home runs and 89 runs batted in. He is batting .281 in 48 games (all starts) this season and leads the team with six home runs. Rob batted .325 as a junior with 47 RBI's and has also appeared in 29 games on the mound in his career.
Michalkiewicz is a four-year player who will leave the program with career records for games started and innings pitched and in the Top 10 in victories and strikeouts. Earlier this season, he became the first-ever UWM pitcher to throw back-to-back complete game shutouts and set a new program record with 22.1 consecutive scoreless innings. This year, he is 5-4 with a 3.95 ERA and on pace to establish a new school record for strikeout-to-walk ratio and currently leads the Horizon League in shutouts and complete games.
McCoy is a four-year player who will leave the program with career records in doubles, at bats and games played - which he will break today with the 203rd of his career. He is also in the Top 5 in other categories including second in total bases, third in hits and fourth in runs batted in. He has earned Second Team All-Horizon League honors twice - last season, when he hit .316 with 11 home runs and 48 runs batted in, and as a freshman. In 202 career games, he has recorded 209 hits, 55 doubles, nine triples and 134 runs batted in.
