Horizon League Championships Moved To Akron On Friday

Water main break on CSU campus has shut down pool

Feb. 22, 2008

CLEVELAND, Ohio - The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee swimming & diving team will compete in day three of the Horizon League Championships tonight at the University of Akron instead of in Cleveland, Ohio. Head coach Dave Griffore announced earlier today that due to a water main break on the campus of Cleveland State University, Busbey Natatorium has been shut down and the schedule for the remainder of the Horizon League Championships will be scheduled on a day-to-day basis.

Friday's start time in Akron, Ohio, is set for 5 p.m. EST. If the water main gets fixed in time, the meet will continue at CSU as planned on Saturday. That decision will not be made until later tonight. If not, the remainder of the meet will be at Akron. Either way, the rest of the meet will consist of timed finals only and no preliminaries.

The Horizon League Network coverage has also been cancelled for today. If the meet continues at CSU, HLN will run coverage as planned on Saturday. The men's one meter diving event, originally scheduled for today, has been pushed back to tomorrow, as both that event and the women's three-meter will be conducted at 12 p.m. Saturday, with timed finals in the swimming events starting at 5 p.m. again on Saturday.

UPDATE: The choice of location of Saturday's final day of the Horizon League Championships has already been decided. The league teams will again return to Oliver J. Ocasek Natatorium in Akron, Ohio, on Saturday to crown the league champion.

Slight adjustments to the schedule have been made, as the two diving events will start at noon EST and the timed finals will start at 4 p.m. EST.
