Megna Named Horizon League Player Of The Week
MILWAUKEE, Wis. (Sept. 22, 2008) - Junior Kate Megna of the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee women's soccer team has been named the Horizon League Player of the Week for Sept. 22, the league office announced today. The honor is the first in Megna's career, while she is the second Panther to earn the award this season following freshman Sarah Hagen Aug. 25. Megna was named the Offensive Most Valuable Player of the Minnesota Gold Classic, leading Milwaukee to a second-place finish at the tournament with a 1-0-1 record. She tallied two goals on the weekend, including an insurance score in a 2-0 win over Boston University Friday. She then put UWM ahead, 2-1, in what would become a tie against Brown. Both Panther opponents last week were receiving votes in the NSCAA national poll, while Brown was ranked as high as 21st by Soccer America. Megna's two scores pushed her season total to four and her point total to 13, which is third in the league. Her five assists tie her for second with teammate Nicole Sperl. Milwaukee returns to action with two games this week. The Panthers close out the non-league portion of their schedule by hosting Northwestern Wednesday. They then start league play Friday, hosting Green Bay.
