Zimmerman Breaks School Triple Jump Mark At Whitewater
WHITEWATER, Wis. (Jan. 19, 2007) - Sophomore Beth Zimmerman set the school record in winning the triple jump and added a win in the long jump as the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee women's track and field team posted 10 event wins at the UW-Whitewater Invitational Friday night in Whitewater, Wis. The meet was not scored and featured host UW-Whitewater and Beloit College. Zimmerman jumped 38-2 3/4 in the triple jump to eclipse Stephanie Kenesie's previous school standard of 37-11 1/4, set in 2002. Sophomore Kicha Cary was second in the event with a personal-best leap of 37-0 1/4, which moved her up to fourth in school history. UWM had athletes taking the top three places in both the triple and long jumps. Freshman Reigna Pierce rounded out the top three in the triple jump with a jump of 35-6 1/2. Zimmerman led the way in the long jump at 18-1 1/2, tying the 10th-best jump in school history, with Pierce taking second and Cary third, both with jumps of 17-4 1/4. For the second-straight meet, Zimmerman added a second-place showing in the 200m to her long and triple jump wins. This week, she posted a time of 26.82 in doing so and was the top attached finisher. Freshman Emily Budde took third in 26.93. Budde also took second in the 55m in 7.80 Milwaukee also swept the top three positions in the 3000m, with junior Angie Huebner leading the way in 10:45.42. Sophomore Holly Nearman was right behind her in 10:45.95 and sophomore Erin Magargee a fraction of a second later in 10:46.43. Seniors Kourtney Nault and Andrea Ziebell and freshmen Erin Havener, Kelsey Conrad, Laura Ring and Jamie Woods also won events. Nault was victorious in the mile run in 5:25.57 and Ziebell ran a time of 8.82 in winning the 55m hurdles.
Havener cleared the third-best height in school history to take top honors in the pole vault at 11-7 3/4. Sophomore Jes Weyandt was second with a personal-best height of 10-6 1/4. Conrad's win came in the 400m, where she ran 1:00.80, while Ring won the 800m in 2:28.63. Woods' won the weight throw with a toss of 42-11 3/4, with freshman Ashley Zander taking third with a distance of 40-7 1/2. The Panthers also got a win in the 4x400m and second-place finish from senior Amy Sunby in the 600m. The 4x400m quartet posted a time of 4:11.54 and Sunby ran 1:41.70. Sunby's time was just 0.14 seconds back of first, an unattached runner. UWM remains in Wisconsin for its next meet, competing at the Madison Elite Invitational, Jan. 27, hosted by Wisconsin in Madison. |
