Pair Of Walk-Ons Join Panther Roster

Jansen, Potter coming to UWM in fall of 2008

April 23, 2008

MILWAUKEE - Melissa Jansen of West Bend, Wis., and Morgan Potter of Stoughton, Wis., have enrolled at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee and will join the volleyball team as walk-ons, head coach Susie Johnson announced today.

The pair joins a large group of newcomers for the Panthers, who have won the last five Horizon League regular season titles and won a school-record 26 matches last season.

The other newcomers include four high school seniors - Morgan Kilberger, Mackenzie Millis, Mary Beth O'Brien and Samantha Trawitzke - along with Tennessee transfer Jena Berg. Kilberger, Millis, O'Brien and Trawitzke all signed National Letters of Intent in November while Berg came to UWM at the start of the second semester.

Jansen is a 6-foot middle hitter from West Bend West High School. She has earned all-conference and all-state recognition during her career with the Spartans, helping her team to the state tournament in 2006.

"Melissa is a tremendous athlete who can succeed at this level," Johnson said. "She has been coming to our camp for years and I think she just needs an opportunity to shine. She will add depth to our middle hitter position and she can be very, very good."

Potter is a 5-foot-3 defensive specialist from Stoughton High School. She is a two-time first-team All-Southern Badger Conference honoree who has been named her team's most valuable player each of the last two years.

"Morgan is a strong defensive player who has a lot of spunk and confidence," Johnson said. "Everyone connected to Morgan has great things to say about her and she should fit in very well with this team."

UWM wrapped up its spring season last week and will open practice for the fall season in August.
