Nate Weiland joined the Panther coaching staff last season as a volunteer assistant and is now in his first as a full-time assistant. He spent four years as a member of Milwaukee's distance and cross country corps. In his career, Weiland established himself as a consistent performer, earning all-league second team honors in cross country during his final two seasons. As a senior, he took 38th at the NCAA Great Lakes Regional, the third-best regional finish in team history, second only to UWM Hall of Famer Chad Zehms. On the track, the Waunakee, Wis., native is among the school's all-time leaders in the indoor 3000m and 5000m and the outdoor 10,000m. His 10k time of 30:57.60 is fourth in school history. Weiland ran a time of 2:32:17 at the Dallas White Rock Marathon in December. He will attempt to qualify for November's Olympic Trials at Grandma's Marathon in Duluth, Minn., in June. An exercise and fitness major, Weiland is expected to graduate in May. |
