MILWAUKEE, Wis. (Nov. 7, 2007) - The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee men's and women's cross country teams hit the road Saturday, heading to the NCAA Great Lakes Regional in Bloomington, Ind. The Panthers will be competing for a berth in the 2007 NCAA Chamoionships, Nov. 19, in Terre Haute, Ind. Milwaukee is coming off the Horizon League Championships where the women placed second in the 10-team field and the men eighth among nine teams. Senior Holly Nearman led the Panther women at the league meet, netting all-league first team honors for the second year in a row. She finished fourth overall to pace four runners on all-league teams. Junior Erin Magargee just missed first-team accolades by finishing eighth, while senior Angie Huebner was 12th and sophomore Abbie Zaspel was 13th. It marked the first time that four runners from UWM earned all-league honors since 1992 when the team competed in the Mid-Continent Conference. The finish was also its highest since winning the 1993 Mid-Con title. The Panthers have also caught the attention of the region, moving into the regional rankings for the first time this season at No. 15. On the men's side, senior Nick Hawley did not finish at the league championships due to injury and no UWM runner finished inside the top 30 at the meet. Milwaukee has fared well at the regional meet in recent years. Nearman finished 42nd last season, marking the fourth-best individual finish in the team's Division I history. Meanwhile, Huebner has placed 61st as a junior and 64th as a sophomore for the ninth and 13th-best finishes. As a team, the Panther women were 14th last season, the second-best team finish.
